From January 1, 2023, Dubai has suspended the 30% tax on alcohol and a personal liquor license will be free to obtain for those eligible to purchase alcohol legally. Talk about a joyous New Year indeed!

30% Tax On Alcohol Removed
Interestingly this tax was a huge contributor to the government treasury. However, in what seems like an effort to boost tourism, the tax has been removed. Several alcohol distributors claim this move has already contributed to a hug increase in sales.
You can also apply to get your personal liquor license to purchase alcohol. However, the government has imposed certain conditions:
- You must be over 21 years of age
- You must have a valid Emirates ID. or a valid passport for tourists
