Madarosis is the word for sparse brows and lashes. “Losing eyebrow hair is an inevitable part of getting older,” said dermatologist Brandon Kirsch. “As we age, our hair, including eyebrows and lashes, lose their fullness, length and colour.” There are many other factors due to which your eyebrows tend to get thin, hormonal changes, thyroid conditions, nutritional deficiencies, plucking or waxing the eyebrows too frequently or too aggressively, etc. So here are 3 tips on getting fuller eyebrows:
Microblading:
“It’s definitely my favourite and preferred approach for patients who want to improve the cosmetic appearance of thin or absent brows,” said dermatologist Rachel Maiman. “The technique uses a special pen to deposit pigment into the superficial layers of the skin. It’s not as deep as a traditional tattoo, so the ink is only semi-permanent and will eventually fade away completely.”
“The microblading artist draws hair-like strokes in the brow area to give the appearance of a fuller eyebrow,” Maiman said. “It’s important to note that microblading does not induce hair growth, but it won’t inhibit it, either. Generally, treatment with microblading requires two initial sessions spaced six weeks apart.”
Tinting & Laminating:
To put it in simple language, it is like a perm for your eyebrows. Brow lamination straightens the eyebrow hair and freezes them in that place. Though it wears off in about four to six weeks. “It’s a game-changer for those with thicker-textured brows,” said makeup artist Diane da Silva. “It creates manageability, offering that soap-brow ‘laid’ look with minimal additional product needed. Brows appear unbelievably full and soft with little effort.”
Makeup:
If you are looking for something even more temporary, makeup is your solution. Brow pencils and brow gels can work wonders for you if used correctly. Remember to pick a brow pencil that matches the colour of your brows.
