We all know how much we owe to the frontline workers during the coronavirus pandemic. Doctors, nurses and policemen have done a lot for us during the pandemic, hence to pay tribute to them, Kart Group and Dubai Science Park (DSP), a member of TECOM Group decided to go an extra mile. They have installed a unique life-sized art installation located in the science-focused business district. This is for all the frontline workers from around the world!
The art project, which was created by the brilliant Kart Group, was unveiled on June 21st to honour the heroes in the realms of medicine, security, and public health who toiled diligently to help their communities during the Covid-19 pandemic. This art installation has 17 panels, put together these panels form several images (police officer, first aider, nurse, doctor, volunteer and cleaner).
In association with Boston Scientific and NewBridge Pharmaceuticals, Dubai Science Park commissioned the artwork. It was unveiled in front of several dignitaries and VIPs, including Dr Younis Kazim, CEO of the Dubai Healthcare Corporation, Major General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi, Director of the General Department of Organization Protective Security and Emergency, and Marwan Abdulaziz Janahi, Managing Director of Dubai Science Park.
Commenting on the reveal, Marwan Abdulaziz Janahi, Managing Director of Dubai Science Park, said: “The UAE demonstrated high levels of resilience with the robust action we witnessed from our leadership to protect everyone, setting a model for the world to follow. We are also proud that Dubai Science Park and its customers have been at the heart of Dubai and the UAE’s remarkable response to the pandemic, which included providing cutting-edge testing, disinfection services, and vaccination efforts. Together, we have truly set a model for the world to follow.”
“We are honoured to have this heartfelt art installation in our community, and we hope it can convey our eternal appreciation to the frontline workers and heroes that selflessly put their lives at risk to help their communities. The pandemic will unquestionably go down as a pivotal moment in human history, and most importantly how the world came together to find a cure and collectively fight this global challenge. We must ensure that history remembers that it was our front-line fighters who showed unimaginable courage and resilience, and helped the world overcome these unprecedented times,” he added.
Mustafa Khamash, Managing Director of Kart Group said: “The sculpture conveys a message through art, of hope, compassion, and selflessness throughout the global pandemic. Creativity unites people, and the installation will serve as a permanent reminder of the importance of communities and the enrichment that front liners have brought to many people’s lives throughout COVID-19.”
Only from one vantage point can the multi-layered celebratory art installation be seen in its full. Viewers will only see a sizable 90-square metre abstract composition from other angles. To draw attention to the frontline soldiers’ silhouettes, the installation is hand-carved from Styrofoam and painted with cementitious paint to simulate a Cor-ten metal texture. The sculpture, which is otherwise lightweight and expansive, gains weight thanks to the rough veneer.
