Sharjah, the Arab world’s cultural capital has been a shelter to new advancements of a variety of exciting projects ranging from the House of Wisdom to Khorfakkan amphitheatre and waterfall. A new addition to the capital is Sharjah’s floating theatre.
The Sharjah Government Media Bureau unveiled the interesting project last July , and is planning to open the theatre soon. Initially it was named as ‘Kalba Floating Theatre’ by the media authority. But later on was changed by the architectural marvel who finalised a new name , Al Mahara Theatre.
The design, which resembles a seashell surrounded by water basins, was inspired by the Ruler of Sharjah himself. The floating theatre is located on the city of Kalba’s corniche. His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, visited the site last year and approved the project’s launch. The theatre, which is connected to the corniche, will provide a panoramic view of the Kalba Corniche and the Arabian Sea. Throughout the year, numerous facilities will be available to attract visitors. According to current revisions, the theatre will seat 1,000 people and offer unique views of the city’s attractions.
The opening date has still not been revealed.
