In a bold move, Integrated resort operator Wynn Resorts has announced that it will be opening the UAE’s first casino at its upcoming Wynn resort at Ras Al Khaimah. Here’s everything we know so far:
UAE’s First Casino At Ras Al Khaimah by Wynn Resorts
Wynn Resorts had made an announcement in early 2022 that they are planning to build a grand 1000 room resort, named Wynn Marjan, at the man made island of Ras Al Khaimah. At that time, it wasn’t clear if a casino would be part of the property. Gambling is off limits in the Gulf, and so far the region has abided by strict laws.
However, in a turn of events Wynn Resorts Chief Executive Craig Scott Billings confirmed that there will indeed be a casino, the gaming license for which was acquired in January. The resort is set to be completed by 2026.
“When you think about a market like that where you for some period of time, will be the only operator, you certainly don’t want to underbuild the casino, but you want to maintain that sense of energy,” Billings said
“Given that it’s a man-made island without any existing development, it’s an incredibly flexible location on which to plan,” he said.
This is indeed a watershed movement for the UAE & has been met with mixed reactions from the public. While some have applauded the bold move, there have also been some apprehension in this shift of Islamic laws.

The casino is expected to boost tourism, and Wynn Resorts expects high returns for being the first, and only casino of the region. incidentally, Ras Al Khaimah was named the Gulf Tourism Capital for 2021 second year in a row.
