Dubai’s Emirates has devalued Skywards Miles, causing upgrade rewards and classic rewards booked in Business Class and First Class to cost more. This change was made without any advance notice, and it is unclear how much the miles were devalued by. However, it is stated in on their site that award costs have been increased in line with market conditions.
Dubai’s Emirates Devalues Skywards Miles
In addition to the devaluation of Skywards Miles, the cost of business class award tickets has also increased across the board. This comes in line with business class flights seeing a mileage cost increase of about 15-20%.
For example, a business class flight between Washington and Dubai that used to cost 100,000 miles now costs about 115,000 miles. It is also mentioned that it is unclear if there were any other price increases in addition to the business class award cost increase.
Emirates Skywards does not have an award chart, but rather has a mileage calculator that allows users to calculate the cost of an award ticket based on their destination and class of travel. This makes it more difficult for users to determine the exact cost of an award ticket and track any changes that may occur.
The devaluation of Skywards Miles and the increase in the cost of business class award tickets has been met with disappointment from frequent flyers. It is unfortunate for those who have saved up a significant number of Skywards Miles to see their value decrease and the cost of award tickets increase.
