If you thought driving and road traffic safety rules were strict in Dubai, Abu Dhabi is a whole new ballpark. The Abu Dhabi Police recently issued an important reminder that improper roadside parking can now land you a hefty AED 500 fine! Alongside the reminder, they also released a video highlighting the dangers of stopping on the road’s shoulders to highlight roadside safety. So, if you’re unsure what to do if your car ever breaks down in the middle of the road, here’s what you should do.

1. Signal Your Situation
Immediately switch on your hazard lights to warn other drivers.
2. Prioritize Safety
If your car is still operable, drive to the nearest exit and park in a secure location away from traffic.
3. Safely Exit The Vehicle
Parked? Exit the car carefully from the side, away from traffic, ensuring all passengers do the same. Move yourself and passengers to a safe spot, away from the road and the vehicle.
4. Contact Emergency Services
Call 999 for assistance from the Command and Control Center. They will provide the necessary guidance.
5. Set Up Safety Alerts
Place a warning triangle (that should be kept in your car at all times) behind your car to warn oncoming traffic.
6. Wait For Professional assistance To Arrive
Wait for professional help to arrive, especially near moving traffic.
Remember, following these steps can keep you safe and save you from a costly fine. Stay safe out there, and keep the roads in Abu Dhabi safer for everyone!
