Less than 10 days away, the UAE is gearing up to celebrate a significant occasion marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This year, the celebration is expected to take place on Rabi’ Al-Awwal 12, which takes place on Sunday, September 15, 2024, in the Georgian calendar. As this occasion already falls on a Sunday, which is considered a public holiday in Dubai, it is unlikely that we will be getting an extra day off in the following week.
The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources announced on Saturday that a holiday will be observed in honor of Prophet Muhammad’s birthday. This holiday applies to all federal government employees.
According to the authority, the holiday will fall on Sunday, September 15, in line with the Cabinet’s decision regarding official holidays for the year.

What’s Coming In 2025?
Looking ahead to 2025, some exciting changes regarding public holidays in the UAE are on the horizon. A new cabinet resolution has been introduced that could change the way we experience public holidays in the UAE. According to the new rules, if a public holiday happens to fall on a weekend, the Cabinet has the power to move it to either the start or end of the week. However, there are exceptions to this new cabinet rule, which means certain public holidays that are already in place will not have the possibility of changing their dates.

More Public Holidays In 2025?
But that’s not all – there’s also room for more public holidays in the future. The resolution mentions that local governments have the authority to approve additional holidays not listed in the official schedule.
With these potential changes on the horizon, 2025 is shaping up to be an exciting year for UAE residents. For the full set of information about the new UAE cabinet resolutions, click the link below.
