At the start of 2022, Abu Dhabi will host the FIFA Club World Cup. This event will feature Chelsea, the UAE’s Al Jazira and five other teams. Japan was the one to host this event but backed out due to the pandemic. This will be the fifth time that the UAE has hosted this event and the second time for Abu Dhabi. Next year will be a great time for football fans in the Middle East. Qatar will host the FIFA World Cup in November 2022 and Abu Dhabi will host the FIFA Club World Cup in early next year.
Aref Hamad Al Awani, general secretary of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said: “We are absolutely delighted to host the Fifa Club World Cup in Abu Dhabi for the fifth time. It goes without saying the competition brings both the fan-favourite clubs and players from around the world.”
“This is a tremendous honour for us. We would like to thank FIFA for the confidence and faith they have in us, based on the past successes of playing host to this immensely popular competition.”
