Beat Dubai To Sharjah Traffic In Just 12 Minutes Using This New Bridge

Gather around and listen up, my Dubai to Sharjah commuters. I bring some news with me that I hope puts a smile on your face – 2 brand new bridges finally opened on Sunday, September 15th, which aims to make your daily commute much smoother. These bridges, part of the Garn Al Sabkha-Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road Intersection Improvement Project, are set to slash travel time from Dubai to Sharjah by up to 70%. According to Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at RTA, this will greatly relieve traffic in the area. Come with me, and I’ll tell you all the important details you need to know.

First Bridge

The first bridge spans 601 metres, featuring two lanes and is designed to handle up to 3,200 vehicles per hour. This bridge is a game-changer for those heading east from Garn Al Sabkha Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and then continuing towards Al Qusais and Sharjah. With this new addition, your peak-hour journey will drop from 20 minutes to just 12 minutes – cutting your travel time by a whopping 40%.

Second Bridge

The second bridge, at 664 metres long, also has two lanes and can accommodate the same volume of traffic – 3,200 vehicles per hour. This bridge specifically targets congestion issues for those travelling south from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road towards Al Yalayis Street and Jebel Ali Port. By separating these traffic flows, the bridge helps ease bottlenecks in this busy area.

A Third Bridge To Come Soon

But the improvements don’t stop here. A third bridge is set to open in October, completing this ambitious project. Spanning 943 metres, this bridge will connect Garn Al Sabkha Street with Al Asayel Street. It will feature two lanes in each direction, allowing up to 8,000 vehicles per hour to pass through. Once completed, it will significantly enhance traffic flow between two of Dubai’s major highways – Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

With 97% of the project already finished, Dubai’s road network is about to see a huge upgrade.
