What Else Can You Use Instead Of Plastic?

To make the transition easier and more appealing, Carrefour is offering a 33% discount on their sturdy Juco bags throughout the month. Additionally, customers who bring their own bags or buy reusable ones will earn a bonus of 5 SHARE points. For those spending over AED 40 in the fruits and vegetables section, free bags will be provided. It’s a win-win for the environment and the shoppers!

Aligning With UAE’s Sustainability Goals

This initiative is part of Carrefour’s broader strategy to support the UAE’s efforts in reducing plastic waste. In line with Dubai’s single-use plastic bag ban introduced last June, Carrefour has already achieved a 70% reduction in plastic usage. “At Majid Al Futtaim, we recognise our responsibility as a trusted retailer to reduce plastic consumption, especially single-use plastics. With over 80,000 customers visiting our stores daily, we have a significant opportunity to impact the planet positively and encourage sustainable lifestyles for future generations,” said Samar Elmnhrawy, Senior Vice President of Sustainability at Majid Al Futtaim Retail.

Marking International Plastic Bag Free Day

Carrefour is not only focusing on Wednesdays but will also mark International Plastic Bag Free Day as part of its efforts (July 3rd). The company aims to drive awareness and inspire positive change through this larger, plastic-free journey. Their initiatives align with the UAE’s broader environmental goals, making a tangible impact on customer attitudes towards sustainable shopping.

Commitment To A Plastic-Free Future

Through collaborations with recycling partners like BEEAH and Sparklo, Carrefour has collected over 185 tonnes of recyclables, preventing more than 1,140 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. These efforts demonstrate Carrefour’s commitment to a plastic-free future and its mission to empower customers to make greener choices through the ‘Choose Better’ program.

So, this July, grab your reusable bags and join the movement at Carrefour for a plastic-free planet!
