Driving Transformation in Dubai

In a bid to enhance the expatriate experience, the ‘golden chance’ scheme offers a swift pathway to convert your foreign driving licence into a Dubai driving licence. Prior to this rule, individuals with licences from non-approved countries had to undergo lessons and a driving test. Now, the process is simplified; applicants need only pass a theory and road test. This significant change benefits those from countries such as India, Pakistan, and the Philippines, allowing them to hit the Dubai roads without the burden of additional lessons.

Eligibility and Approved Countries

The Dubai driving licence update caters not only to those from non-approved countries but also to individuals with licences from approved nations. Countries falling under the latter category, including the UK, France, Hong Kong, South Africa, Denmark, Ireland, USA, Canada, and more, can effortlessly convert their licences with the RTA.

It’s worth noting that certain countries, like Lithuania and Greece, require foreign licence holders to withdraw their existing licence in order to drive in Dubai. This measure ensures a safe and standardised driving environment for all residents and visitors to the vibrant city.
