New ‘Golden Chance’ Scheme Lets Dubai Expats Convert Their Driving Licence Without Lessons

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced a new initiative for driving license conversion, allowing drivers from 43 countries to convert their licenses without taking driving lessons. The ‘Golden Chance’ initiative was launched on April 1st and streamlines the application process for drivers who hold a valid license from their home country.

Who is eligible for the ‘Golden Chance’ initiative?

The initiative is applicable to drivers who hold a license from countries not approved by the RTA, including India, Pakistan, and the Philippines. Drivers who hold a license from an approved country, including the UK, France, and the USA, can convert their license directly at the RTA. What are the conditions for the ‘Golden Chance’ initiative?

To qualify for the ‘Golden Chance’ initiative, drivers must pass both the theory and road test on their first attempt. If they fail, they will have to enroll in regular driving classes. The cost of the initiative will depend on the driving school chosen, with expected costs around AED 2,200.

Can I learn to drive in Dubai?

Yes, those without a driving license can learn to drive in Dubai if they are over 18 years old. There are several driving schools in the city, including Emirates Driving Institute, Dubai Driving Centre, Galadari Motor Driving Centre, Belhasa Driving Centre, and Al Ahli Driving Center.
