A Day To Go Down In Dubai’s History

In an official statement by the RTA, the launch date for the Dubai Metro Blue Line will be Sunday, September 9, 2029. Why such a specific date, you ask? That’s because the debut of the Blue Line will also coincide with the 20th anniversary of the Dubai Metro, which first started operations on 9-9-2009 at 9:09:09 PM. Talk about a day that will go down in the history of Dubai!

Blueprint Of The Blue LineConnecting Dubai Like Never Before

Spanning 30 kilometers, the Blue Line will feature 14 modern stations and a fleet of 28 cutting-edge trains. This efficient network is designed to handle 200,000 daily riders by 2030, with capacity climbing to 320,000 passengers by 2040. The metro will have the ability to transport 46,000 passengers per hour in both directions, easing congestion by an impressive 20% along its route.

With travel times ranging from 10 to 25 minutes, it will link nine key areas, including:

  • Mirdif
  • Al Warqa
  • Dubai Silicon Oasis
  • Academic City
  • Ras Al Khor Industrial Area
  • Dubai Creek Harbour
  • Dubai Festival City
  • International City 1 and 2

This seamless connectivity also provides a direct link between Dubai International Airport and key urban hubs in the city, ensuring faster and more convenient commutes for all kinds of travellers.

Two Routes for Maximum Flexibility

The Blue Line will integrate effortlessly with the existing metro network through two distinct routes:

  1. Route One: Starting at Al Khor Interchange (Green Line), this route passes through key areas such as Dubai Festival City, and Dubai Silicon Oasis, and concludes at Dubai Academic City. Covering 21 kilometres, it will include 10 stations, combining elevated and underground tracks.
  2. Route Two: Starting from Centrepoint Interchange (Red Line) in Al Rashidiya, this shorter route spans 9 kilometres and includes four stations, connecting Mirdif and Al Warqaa to International City One.

A New Era Of Design

The Blue Line stations will stand out with a sleek and futuristic architectural style. Unlike the fully enclosed Red and Green Line stations, these new stops will feature curved, smooth structures. The main platforms will be housed in oval-shaped enclosures, creating a striking and modern aesthetic.

One Step Closer To A ’20-Minute City’

As part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, the Blue Line is a vital step toward creating a “20-minute city” – a concept where residents can reach 80% of essential services within 20 minutes. The Blue Line is expected to offer an affordable and efficient alternative to road travel, benefiting both commuters and the environment.
