Dubai’s New Bridge Set To Ease Traffic Between Bur Dubai & Dubai Islands

If there’s one thing the driver of Dubai love, it’s a good bridge that helps you skip the traffic and brings commute times down. And guess what? Dubai is building a brand new bridge, that’s not only going to be a massive game-changer for drivers but cyclists, and pedestrians alike! This new bridge will connect Bur Dubai to Dubai Islands, helping people travel faster while reducing congestion in one of the city’s busiest areas. I have all the details you want to know, so keep reading to find out more.

A Bridge With A View

The bridge will be around 1.4 kilometers long, featuring four lanes in each direction, which means it can carry up to 16,000 vehicles every hour. It’s designed to rise 18.5 metres above Dubai Creek, leaving enough room below for boats to pass through a 75-metre-wide waterway – so marine traffic won’t be affected either! And as a bonus you get a beautiful view of Dubai Creek as you drive along the new bridge.

Making Dubai A More Walkable City

What’s even more great about this new road project is that it’s not just about making commuting easier for drivers, but also puts focus on making Dubai a more walkable city. The bridge will also have dedicated walking and cycling paths, with elevators at both ends to make access easy. Plus, it includes 2 km of surface roads to link everything smoothly with the rest of the network in both Bur Dubai and Dubai Islands.

Part Of A Bigger Vision: The Al Shindagha Corridor

This bridge is just one piece of a massive upgrade called the Al Shindagha Corridor Development. If you stay up-to-date with Gulf Buzz then you’ll know the development is a major infrastructure push by the RTA. It stretches over 13 km and covering 15 key intersections, the project connects places like Deira, Bur Dubai, Dubai Islands, Deira Waterfront, Dubai Maritime City, and Port Rashid. Once the corridor is complete, travel times will shrink dramatically. A journey that currently takes over 1.5 hours could drop to just 16 minutes. That adds up to some serious time (and fuel) savings – AED 45 billion over 20 years, to be exact!

Major Upgrades In 15 Areas

Several popular neighbourhoods are getting a traffic-friendly makeover under this development. Here’s an idea of what’s to come:

  • JVC (Jumeirah Village Circle): Four new exits and flyovers to double road capacity and cut travel time by up to 70%.
  • Dubai Production City: New bridges from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road could halve your commute.
  • Business Bay: A new pedestrian bridge and upgraded intersections will ease traffic by 30%.
  • Palm Jumeirah: Smoother flow with new acceleration lanes and two pedestrian bridges.
  • Dubai International City (Phase 3): Extra lanes and better entry points will reduce travel time from 15 minutes to just 5.

With fast-growing communities and more people on the move every day, Dubai’s roads are getting a much-needed upgrade. This bridge, under the Al Shindagha Corridor Development, is one big step in the right direction1
