New ’Silent Radars’ In Dubai Do Not Flash When You Are Caught Speeding!

Dubai’s New Silent Radars: How To Spot Them & What Fines Can They Give You

If you were staying up to date with Gulf Buzz last week, then you should already know all about the Dubai Police’s introducing new ‘Silent Radars’ in the city. But for all the new people here today – these silent radars do not flash you! This means you could be caught in the middle of a traffic violation and not even know you’ve got a hefty fine waiting for you on the Dubai Police App. For now, these new radars are only being placed in a select few residential areas. So, to know how to spot the silent radars and the fines they can give you, come with me, and I’ll give you all the need-to-know information.

Types Of Violations & Fines

Here’s a breakdown of the fines you could face with these new radars:

  • Using a Handheld Mobile Phone: If you’re caught driving while using a handheld mobile, you could be fined AED 800 and receive 4 points on your license.
  • Speeding: Exceeding the speed limit by no more than 30km per hour will result in an AED 300 fine. If you exceed the limit by no more than 60km per hour, expect an AED 1,500 fine, 6 points on your license, and a 15-day vehicle confiscation.
  • Not Wearing a Seatbelt: Driving without a seatbelt can get you an AED 400 fine and 4 points on your license.

Why Are They Being Used?

The Dubai Police and the RTA want to encourage drivers to maintain good driving habits at all times, not just when they know a speed camera is close. With silent radars, which will be much more difficult to recognise, the aim is to decrease the number of drives that engage in illegal habits like using mobile phones while on the road. The residential areas where these radars will be placed are yet to be announced. However, you can likely tell it’s a radar through the grey and black strippings on the pole.

Dubai Police In The Sky, Using Drone Technology

In addition to these radars, Dubai Police has also implemented the use of patrol drones in the skies. You can find them mostly in residential areas, but you can also occasionally spot them hovering above Sheikh Zayed Road. These drones are being used in an attempt to utilise advanced technology to improve community safety in Dubai.

These new silent radars and drones represent Dubai’s commitment to road safety and emergency response. By being aware of their presence and following traffic rules, drivers can avoid hefty fines and contribute to a safer driving environment for everyone in the city.
