Great news again for us all in Dubai! This is an exciting time in the development and use of more environmentally friendly transportation in Dubai. The RTA has signed an agreement with Australian bus manufacturer BusTech Group to develop and test eco-friendly and zero-emission electric buses in Dubai. This news follows the announcement earlier this week that a number of Tesla Model 3 electric cars will join the RTA taxi fleet.
According to the RTA website, we can ride on these trial buses for free. The routes run along the popular route from La Mer to Al Sufouh. It has several fun stops along the way such as Burj Al Arab, Wild Wadi, Dubai Offshore Sailing Club and Mercato Mall.
The buses are eco-friendly as they will produce zero emissions. They are certainly a welcome step in Dubai’s efforts to fight climate change. It can cover a distance of 95km after a single charge.
The USP of this electric bus is the less than 10-second world’s fastest flash charging facility at bus stops. This is thanks to Hitachi Energy’s pioneering Grid-eMotion smart charging solution. Hany Tawfik, head of Emirates Global Motor Electric and Emirates Global Industries said that electric buses will hit the streets by the end of 2022.
In the near future, Dubai buses are also set to use artificial intelligence under the guidance of City Brain, to speed up the bus service and better service the areas and frequent users of public transport. RTA’s environmental-friendly plans call for increasing the number of electric and hybrid vehicles, improving energy-efficient facilities, upgrading streetlights and reducing waste.
Dubai has recently introduced a number of sustainable and environmentally friendly initiatives including a fee of 25 fils for plastic bags in an effort to reduce single-use shopping bags, and provide cost-efficient alternatives to private transport such as e-scooters, Careem Bike and RTA buses.
Including this, twenty-two additional policies were also approved this week to further propel the city towards the goal of achieving a net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
