Schengen Visa Change On The Horizon
Currently, travellers from countries like Japan, the UAE, UK, and the USA enjoy the privilege of exploring Europe without needing a specific visa. However, in 2025, this convenience will be no more. A major shift is coming, and everyone from over 60 nations will need to apply for an online travel authorisation before embarking on a European adventure.
Meet ETIAS – Europe’s New Entry Requirement
Introducing the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS). This system is designed to bolster security across the Schengen Area. To get your ETIAS, you’ll soon be able to apply on their official website, which is yet to be unveiled. The application process is expected to be a breeze, taking around 10 minutes. You’ll need to upload your passport scan and answer a few straightforward questions.
The European Union specifies that you should have:
- A passport with over three months of validity.
- A functioning email address.
- Completion of an online form.
- A payment of a 7 euro fee.
Once approved, your ETIAS will allow you to stay in Schengen countries for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. This authorisation is valid for three years or until your passport expires, and you can use it for multiple entries.
Your upcoming European holiday just got a bit more intriguing and a lot more hassle-free!
