A massive heatwave is about to hit many middle eastern countries, they could experience temperatures as high as 56°C this year. This warning was issued after a temperature of almost 50°C was recorded in areas such as Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Oman in recent days. At the end of the month of May, these places recorded a temperature of 49°C.
“These events involve excessively high temperatures (up to 56 °C and higher) and will be of extended duration (several weeks), being potentially life-threatening for humans,” said George Zittis, the lead author, from the Climate and Atmosphere Research Center (CARE-C), at the Cyprus Institute.
