As temperatures plummeted below freezing this weekend, sheets of ice formed on Jebel Jais, the UAE’s highest mountain. The Government Media Office of Ras Al Khaimah published a video of the peak top encrusted in ice. Over the weekend, temperatures on the 1,934m high peak dropped below freezing, converting puddles of water into sheets of ice.
While temperatures in the mountains have dropped below zero, Dubai and Abu Dhabi have experienced temperatures as low as 12 degrees Celsius. These circumstances are made significantly colder by the low humidity.
Temperatures in the UAE’s deserts have been in the single digits for the previous few days. Low temperatures are expected to persist over the UAE. This week, the UAE will see highs of only 25°C and lows of 15°C. Temperatures will remain in the single digits in rural areas. Mornings will be cloudy and misty as well.
