The Federal Traffic Council of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has introduced a groundbreaking initiative named ‘A Day Without Accidents.’ This campaign offers an opportunity for drivers to have four black traffic points removed from their records. The initiative aims to foster a safer driving culture by motivating drivers to avoid violations and accidents. Scheduled for Monday, August 28, this date coincides with the beginning of the new academic year, making it an ideal time to kickstart this safety-oriented endeavor.

The Pledge: Committing to Safer Driving Practices

To participate in the ‘A Day Without Accidents’ initiative, drivers are encouraged to take a pledge that encompasses a set of responsible driving behaviors. By signing up for the pledge, drivers agree to:

  1. Maintain a Safe Following Distance: Ensure a safe gap between your vehicle and the one in front.
  2. Prioritize Pedestrian Safety: Yield to pedestrians crossing the road.
  3. Use Seatbelts: Always wear seatbelts while driving to enhance safety.
  4. Adhere to Speed Limits: Respect speed limits to reduce the risk of accidents.
  5. Avoid Mobile Phone Usage: Refrain from using handheld mobile devices while driving.
  6. Give Right of Way: Allow emergency, police, and public service vehicles to pass.

Brigadier General Engineer Hussain Ahmed Al Harthy, the Chairman of the Federal Traffic Council, elucidated the significance of the initiative. He referred to it as “an encouragement to the public and a reminder of the importance of this day as a public occasion that is invested to enhance awareness and spread the culture of awareness and traffic safety for all.”
