The Visionary Behind The Initiative

This initiative was started by Filipino expat Bimbo Calitis, the founder and CEO of Amphibious Swim School in Jumeirah. He began offering these lessons two years ago. Each session includes a one-hour swimming lesson and 15 minutes of beach cleaning. And the best part is, everyone is welcome to join! From newbies to pros or anyone looking to improve their skills. Cleaning the planet and conquering the waters has no age limit. The swimming lesson will continue until September.

Making A Difference

Calitis recognises that swimming lessons can be expensive and not everyone can afford them. By offering these lessons for free, he ensures that more people can learn to swim while also keeping the beach clean. “Continuous engagement in cleanup and educational activities leads to long-term positive impacts on the community,” he said.

What You Need To Bring To The Lessons

Calitis will provide floats, kickboards, safety rings, and pull buoys. Learners need to bring their own goggles, comfortable swimsuits, water, sunblock, determination to learn, and a willingness to clean the beach. As a former lifeguard, Calitis has witnessed many near-drowning incidents. “The most common reason people drown is because they panic. The first lesson we teach is not to panic but to stay relaxed in open waters,” he explained.

How To Join
