How To Dispute An Unfair Dubai RTA Bus Fine In Just 5 Easy Steps

It’s no secret that Dubai has some pretty strict rules in place, especially when it comes to public Transportation. Breaking these rules comes with some pretty heavy fines! Serious violations can cost you up to AED 5000. Recently, the RTA introduced an automated passenger counting (APC) system in new buses to reduce fare evasion. This system matches actual passenger numbers with automated fare collections. Over 173.5 million passengers used the Dubai public buses in 2023 alone. So, come with me, and I’ll tell you what fines you can get for not tapping your NOL card on the RTA bus and how to dispute an unfair fine.

Fine For Not Tapping On The Bus

When you board a bus in Dubai, you’re expected to tap your Nol card both when you enter and exit. However, some passengers skip this step. If you’re caught evading bus fares, you’ll be fined AED 200. and you must remember, just like for the metro, your NOL card needs to have a minimum balance of AED 7.50 to ride the bus.

Disputing A Fine

If you’ve been fined and believe it’s unjust, you can dispute it online. Here’s how you can do it in five simple steps:

  1. Visit the RTA Website
    • Go to the official RTA website.
    • Under the ‘Public Transport’ dropdown menu, select ‘Bus’, then click on ‘Dispute Form’.
  2. Select Dispute Type
    • When the form opens, choose ‘Public transport users fine (Buses and Marine)’ under dispute type.
  3. Fill Out the Details
    • Enter all required information such as the fine number, Nol card number, mobile number, and the date the fine was issued.
  4. Attach Necessary Documents
    • Combine the following documents into a single PDF and attach them:
      • A copy of your Emirates ID or passport
      • A copy of the offending ticket
      • Nol transaction history
      • Any other supporting documents relevant to your case
  5. Submit the Form
    • Enter the details of the fine and explain why you wish to dispute it.
    • Submit the form.

30 Days Till The Outcome

After submission, you’ll receive an update on the status of your dispute via SMS within 30 days.
