In Pictures: First Images Of The New Etihad Rail

The United Arab Emirates is getting a massive new railway network that will connect 11 towns across the nation, and the first images of the Etihad Rail trains are stunning. The trains will have a top speed of 200 kph and a capacity of 400 passengers.

Wi-Fi, entertainment systems, and charging stations will be available in the carriages. They’ll also have a wide range of food and beverage options, including compact kitchens which will have sinks and microwaves! The network will connect 11 cities from Al Sila in the west to Fujairah in the north when it is completed.

Approximately 70% of the track is currently laid across the country and the Etihad Rail is scheduled to commence by 2030. It would also reduce the time it takes to travel from Abu Dhabi to Dubai to just 50 minutes, and it will connect to the Dubai Metro system. Big ambitions are also in the works for the stations.

“We see the stations as urban centres where people can gather,” Ahmed Al Hashemi, executive director of Etihad Rail passenger sector, told The National. “The stations will fit into the environment and become part of urban development.”
