Kuwait Finally Lifts Year-Long Ban On Filipino Visas

After more than a year of restrictions, Kuwait has officially lifted its ban on issuing entry and work visas to Philippine nationals. This change also includes the recruitment of experienced Filipino domestic workers who have previously worked abroad. Commitment To Cooperation Between Two Nations

This positive development came after a significant bilateral meeting between key officials from both countries. Kuwait’s Minister of Defense and the Minister of the Interior met with the Deputy Minister of Migrant Labor from the Philippines at Seif Palace. The meeting was headed by Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, the First Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers.

During the discussions, both nations agreed to establish a joint technical working committee. This committee will meet periodically to address employment-related issues and other mutual concerns, ensuring smooth and effective communication between the two countries. They also reaffirmed their commitment to the “Domestic Workers Employment Agreement” signed in 2018, which outlines the rights and responsibilities of domestic workers and their employers.

Why Was The Ban Imposed In The First Place?

The ban, which came into effect on May 10, 2023, was imposed due to alleged violations of the bilateral labour agreement by the Philippines. The lifting of this ban marks a significant step forward in improving labour relations and providing better opportunities for Filipino workers in Kuwait.
