The National Health Agency approved five vaccines for COVID-19, which are Gam-COVID-Vac by Gamaleya Research Institute, Tozinameran from Pfizer–BioNTech, mRNA-1273 by Moderna, BBIBP-CorV by Sinopharm and CoronaVac by Sinovac, but the most effective is the one from Pfizer. Scientists behind this amazing miracle are Prof. Dr. Ugur Sahin and Dr. Ozlem Tureci, they are also two of many people who have received this vaccine.
BioNTech is a German company which was founded by two scientists, Prof. Dr. Ugur Sahin and Dr. Ozlem Tureci, the husband and wife team. They mostly focused on cancer medicines and treatments, but since the pandemic, they decided to work on the vaccine as well.
“There are not too many companies on the planet which have the capacity and the competence to do it so fast as we can do it. So it felt not like an opportunity, but a duty to do it, because I realized we could be among the first coming up with the vaccine.” said Dr. Sahin.
