Reaching the top of the tallest mountain in the world is not an easy job, yet making the impossible possible is this mountaineer’s motto! Manal Rostom, a marathoner and mountaineer, has become the first Egyptian woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest after a long and difficult trip! Rostom has finished her two-month expedition to the summit of the world’s tallest mountain, at 8,849 metres.
Manal even shared a video on her social media just a few days before the final lap, talking about her fears and doubts. Rostom participated in marathons in New York City, Berlin, Chicago, Boston, and London, as well as the Great Wall of China. She has already climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Kenya, and Mount Elbrus, as well as reached the base of Mount Himalaya in 2016.
Manal was chosen as the first veiled Egyptian Arab lady to represent Nike’s international women’s sportswear brand. Rostom also started ‘Surviving Hijab,’ a Facebook group with almost 600,000 followers where women may relate their experiences with the hijab. She is frequently requested to speak at large conferences in celebration of her accomplishments, sharing her narrative of overcoming preconceptions and hurdles and spreading a good message of tolerance and acceptance. She’s truly an inspiration for all woman athletes and sports enthusiasts out there!
