Women are breaking patriarchal rules and social norms everywhere. One such great example is from the Middle East itself. Here are 15 brave women from the UAE who joined the country’s first Women’s Firefighting Unit at Ajman Civil Defence. This particular group is believed to be the first group of women firefighters in the entire Middle East. Ajman Civil Defence has welcomed their very first female firefighters in 43 years.

“These requirements were strictly adhered to when selecting the members for the women’s firefighting unit, although all are required to be of good health and physically fit,” said Lt-General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. Each woman firefighter has gone through an intensive training program, which consists of training on job-related issues and military training before joining the team.
