The reason why we all feel safe and comfortable using public transportation in Dubai is because of all the strict rules the city has put into place. Making sure passengers enjoy a clean and smooth journey is one of RTA’s top priorities, which is why they take violations very seriously with high fines and penalties. So, to make sure you have a seamless journey throughout Dubai, whether you are using the Dubai Metro or the local RTA bus, here are all the violations that can land you fines of up to AED 5000. And there are upwards of 45 violations – be sure to read through them carefully!

Fines For Violations On The Dubai Metro

1. Dubai Metro Fines for Behavioral Offenses

  • Causing Inconvenience: If you disturb other passengers, you could be fined AED 100.
  • Feet on Seats: Keep your feet off the seats to avoid an AED 100 fine.
  • Selling Commodities: Selling items inside the Metro or station can result in an AED 200 fine.
  • Pets: Bringing pets (except guide dogs) can cost you AED 100.
  • Littering: Littering or spitting leads to an AED 200 fine.
  • Smoking: Smoking in the Metro or station is fined AED 200.
  • Alcohol: Carrying alcohol can get you fined AED 500.
  • Reserved Areas: Sitting in designated areas without proper eligibility costs AED 100.
  • Eating/Drinking: Consuming food or beverages in the cabins results in an AED 100 fine.
  • Sleeping: Sleeping in prohibited areas will cost you AED 300.
  • Vandalism: Damaging seats or equipment can incur a hefty AED 2000 fine.
  • Non-Passenger Areas: Standing or sitting in non-passenger areas costs AED 100.
  • Restricted Areas: Entering restricted areas against warning signs results in an AED 100 fine.

2. Dubai Metro Fines for Misusing Facilities

  • Boarding Misuse: Climbing or jumping to board the Metro costs AED 100.
  • Escalators and Lifts: Misusing these can result in an AED 100 fine.
  • Doors: Opening or trying to board/leave while moving costs AED 100.
  • Emergency Buttons: Misusing emergency controls can get you fined AED 2000.
  • Safety Tools: Unnecessary use of safety tools or emergency exits is fined AED 2000.

3. Dubai Metro Fines for Safety Violations

  • Dangerous Items: Carrying items that endanger safety or cause inconvenience results in an AED 100 fine.
  • Driver Distraction: Distracting the Metro driver costs AED 200.
  • Hazardous Materials: Bringing dangerous items like weapons or inflammable materials leads to an AED 1000 fine.

4. Dubai Metro Fines for Misusing Nol Card

  • Unauthorised Access: Accessing areas without paying the required fare results in an AED 200 fine.
  • Card Misuse: Using someone else’s Nol card, an expired, counterfeit, or invalid card can cost you AED 200 – AED 500.
  • Unauthorised Sales: Selling a Nol card without permission can incur an AED 200 fine.

5. Dubai Metro Fines for Non-Compliance

  • Nol Card: Not presenting your Nol card when asked results in an AED 200 fine.

How to Pay & Dispute Metro Fines

You can pay your fines at the Al Kifaf Happiness Centre from Sunday to Thursday, 8:00 AM to 7:30 PM. Alternatively, you can pay the inspector directly when the fine is issued. Fines For Violations On The Dubai RTA Bus

1. RTA Bus Fines For Fare Or NOL card Offenses

  • Fare Evasion: Entering or exiting without paying costs AED 200.
  • Card Misuse: Using an expired, invalid, or third-party Nol card can result in fines ranging from AED 200 to AED 5000.

  • Hazardous Materials: Bringing dangerous items on the bus leads to an AED 200 fine.
  • Driver Distraction: Actions that distract the driver can result in an AED 200 fine.
  • Doors: Improper use of bus doors costs AED 100.
  • Annoying Materials: Using items that annoy other passengers costs AED 100.

4. RTA Bus Fines For Non-Compliance

  • Alcohol: Possessing alcohol on the bus results in an AED 200 fine.
  • Selling Goods: Selling or promoting goods costs AED 200.
  • Smoking: Smoking on the bus incurs an AED 200 fine.
  • Reserved Areas: Sitting in areas reserved for specific groups costs AED 100.
  • Improper Standing/Sitting: Using areas not meant for passengers costs AED 100.

How To Check & Pay Bus Fines

Fines are issued against your Emirates ID or passport. You can check and pay fines at Customer Happiness Centres in Al Kifaf, Al Manarah, Umm Ramool, or Al Qusais Bus Station. An AED 20 Knowledge and Innovation Fee applies at the centres but not when paying directly to the inspector.
