Dubai is on the verge of a significant transformation with a new AED 600 million road project designed to reduce traffic congestion. This initiative aims to slash travel times by a staggering 75%, bringing your typical 20-minute drive down to just FIVE minutes. Enhancing Connectivity Across Dubai
The Dubai RTA is spearheading this project as part of the Sheikh Rashid Corridor Development. The main goal is to enhance connectivity between Al Asayel Street and Al Khail Road, utilizing Al Nawras Street. Plus, there will be new exits added to both Oud Metha and Al Nawras Streets, making it easier to get around. Mattar Al Tayer, the Director General of the RTA, explains that this initiative is vital for accommodating a growing population – over 420,000 people are expected to call this area home by 2030.

What’s Included In The Plan?
- Major Upgrades: The project includes the construction of four major intersections, 4,300 meters of bridges, and an impressive 14 kilometres of new roads.
- Key Areas Served: This development will benefit neighbourhoods like Zabeel, Al Jaddaf, Oud Metha, and Umm Hurair, along with important locations such as Latifa Hospital and Al Wasl Club.
Key Changes To Look Forward To
Vehicle capacity on Oud Metha Street will jump from 10,400 to 15,600 cars per hour – an impressive 50% increase! This change will cut travel times on this busy route down to just 5 minutes. Other intersection improvements include:

1. Oud Metha and Sheikh Rashid Intersection: A new left-turn lane will increase capacity to 1,800 cars per hour. Enhancements to the service road will also improve safety and reduce congestion.
2. Oud Metha with Al Asayel and Al Nawras: Two new bridges will connect Al Asayel Street to Al Khail Road, accommodating 2,400 and 3,600 cars per hour, respectively. A dedicated bridge will also be built for left turns onto Oud Metha Street. A new tunnel will be built to handle traffic from Dubai-Al Ain Road to Al Nawras Street, accommodating up to 1,200 cars per hour.

3. Al Nawras and Al Khail Intersection: A two-lane bridge will facilitate 3,000 cars per hour travelling from Al Asayel Street to Al Khail Road. The current bridge on Al Khail Road will expand from two to three lanes, increasing capacity from 2,200 to 3,300 cars per hour.
4. Zabeel Palace Street Intersection: A new lane will double the capacity for left turns from Al Khail Road to the Dubai-Al Ain Road, boosting it from 900 to 1,800 cars per hour.
