Rare ‘Pure-White’ Falcon Sells for AED 1 Mn
The Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (Adihex) witnessed the sale of the costliest falcon – a Pure Gyr American ultra-white falcon – at a whopping AED 1.01 Million. This happened at the falconry auction held annually as part of the exhibition.

The exhibition itself took place from Sep 26th until October 2nd. The falconry auction is normally one of the best attended events, and the visitors this year were in for a treat. Adihex is an excellent way for breeders and merchants of captive-bred birds to sell directly.
Let’s tell you a little more about the bird. What makes it worth 1 million Dirhams? The gyrfalcon (Falco rusticolus) is the largest of the falcon species. It usually breeds on Arctic coasts and tundra, and the islands of northern North America and the Eurosiberian region. Its plumage varies with location, with birds being coloured from all-white to dark brown. The one sold at Adihex was, of course, the pure white kind – making it a sight to witness!

Adihex is organised by the Emirates Falconers’ Club & is an integral part of the Emirati culture. Each year, other than the falcon auction, there’s also camel whisperers, swordsmanship and a lot more.
