Since the end of August, Dubai drivers have been experiencing endless amounts of traffic no matter what time they are out on the roads. And getting stuck in traffic is the last thing you want, when all you’re trying to do is pick up or drop off your kids from school. But it looks like your luck is finally turning around because RTA has just completed a series of traffic improvement projects surrounding 37 schools across the city. These upgrades aim to bring much-needed relief to parents, staff, and students. Come with me, and I’ll tell you all the details you need to know, including which school areas have been improved.

Tackling Congestion Around Major Schools
Traffic congestion near schools is a familiar challenge, especially during the peak hours of drop-offs and pick-ups. The RTA has strategically targeted key areas around some of Dubai’s largest schools to make daily commutes smoother. These schools include:
- Al Mizhar Schools Complex
- Al Safa Schools Complex
- Al Tawar Schools Complex 2
- Al Qusais Schools Complex
- Nad Al Sheba Schools Complex
- School of Research Science, Al Warqa 4
- The International School of Choueifat and Dubai College, Hessa Street
- Kings’ School Dubai, Umm Suqeim Street

What Key Improvements Have Been Made?
To tackle the traffic chaos head-on, the RTA has introduced several enhancements in the school zones. Here’s what’s been improved:
- Wider Roads: Streets leading to schools have been expanded to ease traffic flow.
- More Parking: Additional parking spaces have been created for both staff and parents, reducing roadside congestion.
- Better Access: School entrances and exits have been reworked for smoother traffic movement.
- Safe Pick-Up and Drop-Off Zones: Designated areas now make it safer and easier to drop off and collect students.
- Traffic Diversions: In some locations, traffic diversions have been implemented to manage the heavy flow of vehicles during peak times.
These projects were designed to improve traffic flow and to increase safety levels for everyone involved, including students, staff and parents.

Cutting Down Commute Times
The results of these changes are already noticeable. The Traffic and Roads Agency at RTA, confirmed that school commute times have improved by 15% to 20%. This is a significant reduction, making daily journeys quicker and far less stressful for families.
Looking Ahead
In early 2025, similar upgrades will be rolled out to an additional 13 schools in key locations, including Al Garhoud, Al Barsha 1, Al Warqa, and Al Barsha South. The goal is to continue improving traffic management and reduce congestion around school zones, ensuring smoother and faster travel times for everyone involved!
