Salik Changes In Dubai: 2 New Salik Toll Gates & Potential Price Increase

Some big and expensive changes are coming to the roads of Dubai very soon. Earlier this year, the Dubai RTA announced there would be 2 new Salik toll gates set in place and operational by the end of November. These new gates will affect Dubai’s busiest roads – Al Khail Road & Sheikh Zayed Road. In addition to these new tolls, the Dubai RTA is also considering increasing the prices of Salik fees from the standard AED 4. At the moment, these price increases are just in the talking stage. However, keep reading to find out all the details you need to know about what’s to come.

Where Are The New Toll Gates?

The first of the new toll gates will be located at the Business Bay Crossing on Al Khail Road. If you regularly commute in this area, this new addition may impact your travel costs. The second gate, called the Al Safa South Toll Gate, will be set up on Sheikh Zayed Road, between Al Meydan and Umm Al Sheif Streets. These new locations are part of the ongoing efforts to manage traffic flow and maintain road infrastructure in Dubai.

Paying Only Once At Safa Gates

Here’s a bit of good news to soften the blow – If you pass through both the Safa North and South toll gates within a one-hour window, you’ll only be charged once. This rule already applies to the existing Al Mamzar gates, so if you’re familiar with that setup, you’ll know what to expect.

Current Toll Fee & Possible Price Changes

Right now, the toll fee stands at AED 4 each time you drive through a Salik toll gate. However, that could be changing soon. The RTA has hinted that they may implement “Dynamic Pricing,” which means that toll rates could vary depending on the time of day. For example, you might end up paying more during peak hours or for using specific lanes that are in high demand.

What Is Dynamic Pricing?

The concept of dynamic pricing is not new. Many major cities around the world already use this system to manage traffic congestion. Under dynamic pricing, toll fees would increase during busy times, encouraging drivers to use the roads during off-peak hours. The goal is to help reduce traffic jams and improve the overall flow of vehicles on the roads.

A Greener Future For Salik With Solar Power

Salik is making significant strides towards sustainability by integrating green energy solutions into its operations. The two new toll gates set to open by the end of November 2024 will be nearly 100% powered by solar energy, marking a pioneering step for Salik in its environmental initiatives.

The move towards solar energy has been a key focus for Salik, and it represents a milestone in their sustainability journey. By harnessing solar power, these toll gates will operate more efficiently and reduce reliance on traditional energy sources, which in turn decreases their carbon emissions. The solar-powered gates are part of Salik’s commitment to environmental stewardship and align with Dubai’s vision of becoming a global leader in sustainability.
