Following the publication of new standards for e-scooter users earlier this month, more clarifications and safety upgrades have been revealed. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai stated on Wednesday, April 13, that e-scooter riders would be legally authorised to utilise bicycle tracks in 10 new areas around the city starting Wednesday, April 13.
The RTA also stated that at least 2,000 more e-scooters will be introduced to the present inventory. The Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT), Dubai Internet City, Al Rigga, 2nd of December Street in Satwa, the Palm Jumeirah, and City Walk will be among the first sites where riders will be able to utilise e-scooters.
E-scooter riders will also be able to utilise bicycle tracks in specific zones like Al Qusais, Al Mankhool, and Al Karama. According to His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the RTA’s Board of Executive Directors, these 10 areas were chosen for a variety of factors, including their high population density and ease of access to public transportation and metro stations.
