The restriction on the use of single-use plastic bags will be effective from June 2022, according to an announcement made by the Environment Agency — Abu Dhabi (EAD) on April 6, 2022. Hence the day is here. From Today, June 1st, the use of single-use plastic bags will be an offence and you would be fined for the same. A public awareness campaign was launched to prepare customers and business owners for the deadline. Hence as the day is here several of the UAE’s most well-known firms have shown their support for the effort.
Heads up Abu Dhabi!
We are proud to announce that we will stop all usage of single use plastic bags at checkout in our Abu Dhabi stores, and this positive change will come soon to Dubai. Together we can help save our planet! #MoreForYou #GreatMoments @MajidAlFuttaim pic.twitter.com/KZkNHH6vSQ

It is believed that every bit of plastic ever made still exists ins some shape or form. Plastic is one of the worst things we humans can dump on our planet. Not only does it take millions of years to decompose, but it harms all ecosystems, it disrupts the entire cycle. Luckily, there are some amazing alternatives that you can use. Though these alternatives would not be as cheap as single-use plastic, they will be safer for the environment. Examples of other alternatives are bags made of jute, hemp, cotton, etc. By 2024, the EAD declared that it will be working on legislation to phase out all single-use polystyrene cups, plates, and food containers.
