Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office, inaugurated the Abdul Rahman Makhlouf Street, which is adjacent to the Abu Dhabi Municipality building, on the orders of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
The change honours the late Egyptian engineer who ‘shaped’ the towns of Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. Makhlouf collaborated on the architecture of Abu Dhabi with the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE’s founder. On December 14, the master architect died at the age of 98. Sheikh Mohamed has already praised Dr Makhlouf for his efforts in Abu Dhabi.
Taking to Twitter, Sheikh Mohamed, wrote, “I extend my deepest condolences to the family of Dr Abdulrahman Makhlouf, who worked closely with the late Sheikh Zayed and was instrumental in the planning and design of Abu Dhabi’s urban environment. May he rest in peace.”
