Have you ever been washing your dishes and thought your sponge looked so delicious you could just sink your teeth right into it? If you’re even remotely close to being a sane person, then I hope you just answered no. But for those of you who stopped to think about the answer, boy, do I have a treat for you. While a real dishwashing sponge may not be edible, this cake definitely is. From the dish soap liquid to the bubbly foam and, of course, the sponge itself, Erythrina Cafe (the masterminds behind this wicked creation) has turned it into the sweetest treat you’ll ever have. So, whether you’re gagging right now or surprisingly curious, keep reading to find out what this luscious green and yellow sponge cake is made of.

The Sponge Cake Illusion
They say ‘seeing is believing’, but you still wouldn’t believe this sponge is actually cake if you saw it in real life. The sponge itself comes in two parts, a yellow base vanilla and strawberry cake and a green top layer with a more porous-like texture. The cake is then soaped with whipped cream to perfectly resemble the soapy foam. And last but not least, the cake is doused in green dish soap, aka coloured sugar syrup. It doesn’t get more hyperrealistic than this. It’s amazing what a little bit of creativity and baking can get you.

Where To Find The Viral Cake
Surprisingly, Dubai is not the Emirate housing this unique desert. If you want a bite of the spongey action, you’ll have to drive down to Erythrina Cafe in Kalba City, Fujairah. That’s right, not only do you get a one-of-a-kind sweet treat, but you also get a mesmerising mountain-side road trip out of it! And the cherry on top of the cake (or should I say dish soap), this treat will only cost AED 25! Sounds like a sweet deal to me.
So, whether you think you’ll hate it or love it, gather your friends and tell them it’s time to hit the road. And if you already live in Fujairah, then what are you waiting for? I say run don’t walk to this cafe before they run out of sponges!
