A recent series of speed limit changes across the UAE has highlighted the importance of paying attention to road signs while driving. By adhering to these regulations and driving responsibly, motorists can significantly reduce the occurrence of severe accidents. To ensure road conditions and traffic regulations remain up to date, authorities conduct regular assessments and introduce speed limit modifications as needed. Over the past few months, significant revisions have been announced.

It’s crucial for drivers to keep these changes in mind, as speeding is a serious offence that carries penalties ranging from AED 300 to AED 3,000. The severity of the fine increases based on the degree to which the driver surpasses the speed limit. Conversely, there is also a fine for driving below the designated minimum speed, when applicable.
1. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Road, Abu Dhabi: Since April, Abu Dhabi authorities have implemented a minimum speed of 120km/h on this major highway. Starting from May 1, violators are subject to a Dh400 fine. While the maximum speed limit is 140kmph, drivers need to be aware that if they are on the first and second lanes from the left, they must maintain a speed of 120kmph to avoid the new penalty. Slower vehicles are encouraged to use the third lane, where no minimum speed is specified.
2. Dubai-Hatta Road: In January, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) reduced the speed limit on the Dubai-Hatta Road from 100kmph to 80kmph. This adjustment applies to a 6km stretch that spans Dubai, Ajman, and the Al Hosn roundabout.
3. Masfout and Muzair’a areas, Ajman: Shortly after the Dubai announcement, the Ajman Police specified the speed limit on the Hatta Street located in the Masfout and Muzair’a areas of the emirate. The limit was reduced from 100km/h to 80km/h, and warning signs have been installed to indicate the revision.
4. Abu Dhabi-Al Ain Road: The Abu Dhabi Police have recently decreased the speed limit on this highway from 160km/h to 140km/h. This change applies to the stretch from Al Sad Bridge to Al Amera Bridge in the direction of Al Ain City. It’s important to note that there are no speed buffers in place within the UAE Capital.
5. Wadi Madiq – Kalba road: Due to the absence of residential areas or urban centres along this wide road, transportation authorities have decided to raise the speed limit from 80km/h to 100km/h. This road, also known as E102, connects Wadi Madiq to Kalba, which is a mere 12 kilometres from the Fujairah border.
Remember, staying informed about speed limit revisions and adhering to the prescribed limits is not just a legal requirement—it’s a vital step toward ensuring everyone’s safety on the roads. So, buckle up, stay alert, and enjoy a smooth journey as you navigate UAE roads.
