Just recently we reported that the UAE-India Immigration Rules Changed With Immediate Effect, leaving several Indians stranded & causing quite a furore. As per instructions from UAE authorities, on 21st November, 2022, passengers with only a single name on their passports would not be issued visas and would not be allowed to travel to and from the country. All passengers would be required to have a first & last name on their passports. The new rule seemed to have affected Indian passengers the most, as several Indians have single names on their passports.
Air India was the first airline to have sent out a notice saying that “any passport holder with a single name (word) either in surname or given name will not be accepted by UAE immigration and the passenger will be considered as INAD” (inadmissible passenger). This led to a lot of discussion and several passengers (especially at Indian airports) being turned away.
