UAE Implements New Visa Overstay Fines For Tourist & Residency Visa Holders

If you are on a tourist or residency visa in the UAE, then you are going to need to read this closely. Here’s everything you need to know about the new Visa overstay fines:

Overstay Fines For Tourists

Tourists who stay beyond the validity of their visa will now pay a reduced fine of AED 50 per day. Earlier, authorities were charging AED 100 per day.

Changes came into effect on October 3rd.

The number of days accumulating the fine includes:

  • Any days spent requesting documents
  • Any days spent updating information

A tourist will have 30 days to upload the correct documents once an application to renew the visa has started. However, if documents are uploaded over three times, then the application is considered cancelled and a new one must be started. Those who continue to stay on 30 days after their visa is expired are liable to be arrested by authorities.

A spokesperson from the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security said, “The new system unified the amount of overstay fines to AED 50 per day for any type of visa violator. The overstay fine payment can be paid either by visiting happiness centres or online through the authority website and smart application.”

Overstay Fines For Residency Visa Holders

Residents who stay beyond the validity of their visa will now pay an increased fine of AED 50 per day. Earlier, authorities were charging AED 25 per day.

Changes came into effect on October 3rd.

The number of days accumulating the fine includes:

  • Any days spent requesting documents
  • Any days spent updating information

A resident will have a six-month grace period in which they can leave the country. Another option would be to change their status once the permit has either been cancelled or expired. Beyond six months, continuing to stay in the UAE will be considered a crime that could lead to an arrest.
