August was a busy month for the skies, with a meteor shower, Mars & Jupiter conjunction, and a supermoon all visible within days of each other. But if you couldn’t catch any of those natural marvels, then don’t worry because September also has some celestial treats up its sleeve (or should I say ‘up in the clouds’?) waiting for you. This month, UAE moon-gazers will be able to see a partial lunar eclipse and the Harvest Moon! Not only that but there are also possibilities for rare comet sightseeing to happen around the same time! So, if you’re an astrophile or just very keen on capturing some amazing pictures of the eclipse, keep reading for all the stunning details you need to know!

Partial Lunar Eclipse
Mark these dates – Tuesday, September 17, and Wednesday, September 18 – because the moon is about to put on a show for us. UAE will be able to witness a partial lunar eclipse as Earth positions itself between the sun and the moon, casting a shadow over part of the lunar surface. Though it won’t completely cover the moon, it’s still a sight worth seeing. Don’t forget to grab your camera and capture the moment.

The Harvest Moon
A few days after the lunar eclipse, on Sunday, September 22, the harvest moon will make its appearance. Known for rising around the same time each evening, this moon provided extra light for farmers harvesting crops in the past – hence the name “harvest moon.” This year, it also coincides with the autumnal equinox, marking the official start of fall in the Northern Hemisphere. Whether you’re a moon gazer or not, it’s the perfect time to enjoy some late-night moonlit walks.
Will We See The Brightest Comet Of 2024?
And to make September even more exciting for astrophiles, If all goes well, the comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS), also known as Atlas, could light up the skies on Friday, September 27. This comet has the potential to be the brightest of the year, leaving a dazzling trail across the night sky. However, there’s a bit of uncertainty – some astronomers believe the comet might disintegrate before it becomes visible. So, while we hope for a spectacular sighting, we’ll have to wait and see how it plays out.
Keep An Eye On The Skies
September is shaping up to be a month full of cosmic wonders. Whether you’re planning to catch the lunar eclipse, admire the harvest moon, or hope for a glimpse of the Atlas Comet, be sure to look up and enjoy the beauty of the night sky in Dubai!

November 9, 2024Hello! This is kind of off topic but I need some advice from an established blog. Is it very difficult to set up your own blog? I’m not very techincal but I can figure things out pretty quick. I’m thinking about setting up my own but I’m not sure where to start. Do you have any points or suggestions? Many thanks
