UAQ’s Mystery Plane Will Be Finally Dismantled After 20 Years

An abandoned aircraft has been a famous yet intriguing feature in the emirate of Umm Al Quwain (UAQ) for over two decades. It won’t be there for long, though. According to Khaleej Times, a Soviet-era cargo jet that lies outside the Baracuda Beach Resort along E11 is being disassembled. On a scorching day, demolition machines are breaking apart the 153-foot Ilyushin Il-76. The sun is scorching, and workers are gone. The jet’s four turbofan engines are strewn across the ground, and the wings are damaged and dangling limply by the side of the plane.

“The plane is being dismantled.” “The demolition began a few days ago,” remarked a security guard stationed nearby. When pressed for more information, he declined. It’s unclear how long it will take to deconstruct the massive commercial cargo. The process of dismantling the plane, according to experts, might take up to ten weeks. According to them, the leftover engine oil and fuel must be evacuated from the fuselage since they may be detrimental to the environment. The bolts and fasteners that connect the pieces will go next. A digger is then used to remove the aircraft’s body.
