Get ready for a futuristic ride! Uber’s autonomous ride-hailing service is now available in Abu Dhabi, making it the first city outside the US to experience the company’s self-driving taxis. The service uses advanced self-driving vehicles to offer smart mobility solutions across popular spots like Saadiyat Island, Yas Island, and routes to Zayed International Airport. Come with me, and I’ll share all the details you need to know so you can catch your next driver-free ride!
How It Works
In partnership with China’s WeRide, Abu Dhabi’s Tawasul Transport operates the autonomous fleet on the Uber platform. The launch is supported by the Integrated Transport Centre, ensuring a seamless rollout. For now, a safety operator will be present in each vehicle to guarantee a secure and smooth experience for passengers and pedestrians. This cautious approach sets the stage for a fully driverless service, expected to roll out by 2025 (mind the bad pun, moving on).
