We all faced the repercussions on April 16th when UAE governmental warnings were ignored about the impending storm, and people still left their homes. So, this time, lets stay prepared for heavy rains predicted to happen on Thursday, May 2nd. It’s most likely that flooded roads will occur again, blocking the connections of the city once more for another few days. With this in mind here is everything you need to know about public transportation, flights, parking and more for Dubai on Thursday, May 2nd.

Work From Home? Distance Learning?

Yes! The National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) has highly urged private-sector employers to activate remote working for employees. It has been recommended that all unnecessary movement outside of your house on Thursday, May 2nd, not be conducted to uphold the safety of all UAE residents. An exception has been made for those who are essential workers to carry out their jobs so that Dubai recovery efforts are continuously underway.

Distance learning for Dubai schools has also been implemented by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA). This applies to all private schools, nurseries and universities. Distance learning will be enacted on May 2nd and May 3rd.

Can I Use Public Transportation During The Rain?

The Dubai metro will still be functioning on Thursday, May 2nd. Here is what you need to know about its operational status – The metro hours have been extended from 12 AM to 5 AM in order to accommodate all Dubai passengers. Please also ensure your nol card is topped with a minimum of AED 15 to avoid any unnecessary delays in your journey. Top ups can be made from home through the Nol Pay App.

Wil The Dubai Airport Be Functional On May 2nd?

The Dubai International Aiport is reported to be functional on May 2nd. However, from April 16th we learned that things can always take a turn for the worse, so we must stay prepared. DXB has advised passengers to routinely check on the status of their flight status and flood status of the roads you require to take in order to reach the airport. Please exercise precaution when going to the airport, and be mindful of the people who are aiding you on your journey, such as taxi drivers, airport stuff and the Dubai police.

Will It Only Rain On May 2nd? Dubai Weather Forecast

Fortunately for us, the May 2nd rain is only meant to last for one day! We should be seeing clear and sunny skies from Friday, May 3rd onwards. Will the sun will be shinnig, Dubai is still yet to determine if weekend events will stay on due to flooding/ water damage/ electrical issues people may face during May 2nd. It has also been said that the rains are expected to bring cooler weather and cool winds for the next few days, which comes as a nice change for the residents of Dubai already facing the summer heat.

Will There Be Free Parking In Dubai?

As of yet the Dubai RTA has not announced any changes to parking times or free parking for Thursday, May 2nd. Assume that parking hours and payment amounts are the same as normal working days.

How Can I Prepare Myself For Any Water Or Electricity Distributions?

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is advising Dubai residents to prep for the rainy season by securing electrical connections with waterproof sockets, ensuring proper grounding, and keeping electrical cabinets closed. They’re also urging folks to seal spare conduits on rooftops and fix any damaged meter windows to avoid rain-related issues. By following these simple steps, you can minimse any damages that may occur and keep your home safe during rainy days.

Was There Warning For The May 2nd Rain?

Dubai residents were provided ample worning by the The National Centre for Meteorology on Monday, April 29th. It was announced that heavy rains will occue on May 2nd, however, they will be less severe than what we saw on April 16th.
