Travelling To Europe? You Are No Longer Allowed To Pack This In Your Hand Luggage!

Rest assured, your Europe travel plans are still happening – there’s just a slight change to what you can bring in your carry-on. Starting September 1, 2024, a new rule will apply to passengers travelling from the UAE to Schengen countries. The European Council has announced that travellers will be limited to carrying liquid containers of up to 100ml in their hand luggage. This means you’ll no longer be allowed to take full bottles of any kind of liquids, including skincare and makeup. This temporary rule is a precautionary measure, not a response to a new threat. If you want to know the reasoning behind this temporary change, keep reading to find out.

Why The Change To Hand Luggage Allowance?

This adjustment is due to a temporary technical issue with some airports’ security equipment. While some European airports have advanced Explosive Detection Systems for Cabin Baggage (EDSCB) that currently allow larger liquid containers, these systems will now be limited to the standard 100ml size. Airports in the Schengen area that already enforce the < 100ml in hand luggage rule or don’t use EDSCB equipment will not be affected by this change.

Looking Ahead

The European Commission is collaborating with member states and aviation authorities to quickly resolve the technical issues causing this rule change. The goal is to ensure a safe and smooth travel experience for all passengers. So, where in Europe are you travelling to for your vacation and will carrying less than 100ml affect your packing?
